TWN
Info Service on Intellectual Property Issues (Oct22/02) We are pleased to share with you the briefing paper ‘Injunctions: Impact on Access to Medicines in India’, published by the Third World Network: https://www.twn.my/title2/briefing_papers/twn/Injunctions%20TWNBP%20Oct%202022%20Rathod.pdf An important factor that impacts access to affordable pharmaceuticals and healthcare for common citizens in a country is the Intellectual Property regime. Patent owners charge monopoly prices for their products, which poses a predominant barrier for a large segment of India’s population. Generic pharmaceutical companies launch at risk certain patented medicines and face infringement suits by the patent holders. Patent infringement remedies such as injunctions can become a hurdle to medicine access and should be issued keeping in view both access-related ground realities and legal principles. Thank you. With best wishes Third World Network
