TWN Info Service on Biodiversity and Traditional Knowledge (Aug21/10)

Third World Network

Dear friends and colleagues,

Resource mobilization is a key component of biodiversity financing, and the first draft of the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) addresses this issue in Goal D and Targets 18 and 19. These efforts to mobilize resources for the effective implementation of the GBF should also be situated in the wider discussions on resource mobilization for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), including under the Subsidiary Body on Implementation.

The successor to the current strategy for resource mobilization is due to be adopted at the 15th Meeting of the CBD Conference of Parties to be held virtually on 11-15 October 2021 and in Kunming, China from 25 April to 8 May 2022.

Attached is a TWN briefing note on Targets 18 (incentives) and 19 (increasing financial resources) of the first draft of the GBF, with an analysis and suggested amendments to the proposed text. CBD Parties will be discussing these targets on Friday, 27 August.

With best wishes,

Third World Network
