Recent postings on FTA website
We wish to bring to your attention two recent news articles on the US-Malaysia
FTA which have been posted on the www.ftamalaysia.org website. They
are:
1. Mandatory Labelling of GMOs
(http://www.ftamalaysia.org/article.php?aid=170)
The Natural Resources and Environment Minister Azmi Khalid has been
quoted in the press as saying that Malaysia
has insisted in free trade talks with the US
that imports of genetically-modified food must be labeled even though
the US had wanted
only voluntary labeling by American companies.
1. Malaysia-US FTA: What’s at stake?
This is a 2-part article by economist Charles Santiago which sets the
US-Malaysia FTA talks in the context of the globalisation push. It sets
out both the politics at play and the potential damage to Malaysia’s economic
and human security if the FTA goes ahead. He calls for thorough evaluation
of the FTA’s assumed costs and benefits.
Best wishes,
