Doha WTO Ministerial set for 9-13 November

Geneva, 8 Feb 2001 -- The 4th Ministerial meeting of the World Trade Organization, to be held in Doha (Qatar), will be held from 9-13 November.
The General Council of the WTO agreed on the dates at its meeting Thursday morning.
The WTO had originally planned to hold the meetings on 5-9 November. But the dates coincided with the World Food Summit of the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in Rome.
As a result, the WTO Ministerial meeting dates have been adjusted and will now be held on 9-13 November.
With Ramadan expected to begin on 15 or 16 November (depending on the sighting of the new moon), and all Muslim delegates needing to return home before the commencement of the fasting month, the WTO ministerial will need to end on the 13th.
A preparatory process for the meeting is yet to be set, and will be taken up in consultations before a formal decision by the General Council at its next meeting. SUNS4832
