The UN Interagency Coordination Group on Antimicrobial Resistance opens public consultation

On 11 June the IACG opened for public comments three papers that are a result of its work to date. The consultation is open until 9 July 2018.  This is an opportunity for stakeholders to provide input to the IACG towards shaping the recommendations in its report to be submitted to the UN Secretary-General in summer 2019.

The IACG has announced a public consultation on the first tranche of three papers. The three papers that have been opened for consultation are:

1. Antimicrobial resistance: Invest in innovation and research, and boost R&D and access(1)

2. Antimicrobial resistance: national action plans(2)

3. Surveillance and monitoring for antimicrobial use and resistance(3)

The IACG was established by the UN Secretary-General in accordance with paragraph 15 of the Political Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) under Resolution A/RES/71/3 and in consultation with the World Health Organization, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and the World Organisation for Animal Health. The Group is co-chaired by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and the Director-General of the World Health Organization and comprises high level representatives of relevant UN agencies, other international organizations, and individual experts across different sectors. The IACG mandate is to provide practical guidance for effective global action to combat AMR and to report back to the UN Secretary-General in 2019.

The consultation is open until 9 July 2018. Information on how to submit comments can be found here: http://www.who.int/antimicrobial-resistance/interagency-coordination-group/public-consultation-discussion-papers/en/
